The expositor of Zoroastrianism was the prophet Zarathustra in Persia around 7th century BC. Like the Islam, they also believe in one eternal God whose name is Ahura mazda. Ahura mazda is the epitome of just behaviour and goodness. Angra Maniyu is his opposite i.e, the spirit of evil and bad behaviour. They believe that the two ( Ahura mazda and Angra Maniyu) keep fighting with each other and finally oneday good will win over evil and that will be the final day.
In India they are confined in a small and shrinking community known as the Parsi community ( also popularized as the Iranis) and they mainly reside in Mumbai,Goa, and Ahemdabad area. They are very modern and inteligent in the field of modern day society ( Ratan Tata,Adi Godrej, Dada Bhai Naroji, Nani palkhivala).
Zend Avesta is their sacred book and is written in old Avestan language with 17 sacred songs (Gathas). Athuna Vairyo ( sacred chants) supposedly written by Zarathustra himself. That translation and compilation of glossaries are called the Zend.
Qissa-i Sanjan is a famous account of the Parsis which is the witness of their migration to India from persia due to the Islam invasion and their first settlement in Gujarat.
They have faith in Fire and Earth ( believed to be sacred) so they offer their prayer to the Fire in the Fire temple (8 such temple in India). Tower of Silence is often their graveyard. Here they place their dead bodies in the open ( known as Dakhma) to be eaten by the Vultures ( known as Dakhma Nasini).
In Zoroastrianism, the purpose in life is to become an Ashavan ( a master of Asha) and to bring happiness into the world. Three core teaching include HUMATA (GOOD THOUGHTS), HUXTA ( GOOD WORDS), HUVARSHTA ( GOOD DEEDS).
Let's discuss some of the words of lord Zarathustra.....
1. Ahura mazda is the lord of life and wisdom, light and truth.
2. When you go out into darkness, take Ahura mazda's hand in your hand. That will be better than light and safer than a known way.
3. Sun, moon and stars give light, but Ahura mazda is the light that lights them to light the world.
4. Neither mountains nor oceans separate man from Ahura mazda, but evil thoughts do.
5. Prayer is the heavenward soaring of the soul on the wings of words.
6. Great indeed is the efficacy of prayer. It opens the gate of one's inner temple to let Ahura mazda.
7. A chaste women is the noblest creation of Ahura mazda.
8. Women is the teacher of gentility to man . She helps man to grow in moral height . She is the sustaining Power of the life of man.
9. Yesterday is beyond repair. Tomorrow may never come . Today alone is ours. Make the best use of it as it is your sole, sure possession.
10 Righteousness will ultimately triumph over evil , so never be downhearted, and never give way to the deadly emotions of anger, envy, fear and grief. Always be optimistic.
