The great Adi shankaracharya was an Indian philosopher and theologian who expounded the doctrine of' Advaita Vedanta'. The man ,who revived the degrading Sanatan Dharma. He was the expositor of monotheism in Hinduism. He often founded the Dashnami sampradaya and also wrote the Bramhasutra ( bramha vashya). His two words ' AHAM BRAMHASMI' depicts the source of life of every individual .Who understands the meaning of these words can knows the purpose of life.
According to Swami Vivekananda ," the greatest teacher of Vedanta philosophy was Shankara, is Shankara ,and will Shankara". He was lived just thirty two years and at the age of sixteen he had completed all his writings.( Is this not a astonishing fact ?).
Influence on Hinduism----------
Adi Shankaracharya became a key figure in restoring belief in the Vedas and Upanishads. Smartism is a subsect of Hinduism, was formed based on his teachings. He is also credited with making Hindus understand the existence of one supreme being ( BRAMHAN). He explained that all others deities are just different from of the supreme being. The monasteries founded by shankaracharya had a great influence in reforming the Hinduism.
Even another great scholar of Vedanta philosophy , Swami Vivekananda said,"Vedanta has the power to making a Christian into a better Christian and a Hindu into a better Hindu and so on."

Let's discuss some of the remarkable words of Adi Shankaracharya..........
1. Just as peace of rope is imagined to a snake ( in the semi- darkness) and ane oyster to be a piece of silver , so is the Atman taken to be the body by an ignorant person.
2. Maya or Avidya can be destroyed by the realisation of the pure BRAMHAN, the one without a second, just as the mistaken idea of a snake is removed by discrimination about the rope.
3. Just as a jar is all earth, so also is the body, all consciousness. The division, therefore, into the Self and non-Self is made by the ignorant to no purpose.
4. When the mind becomes purified like a mirror, knowledge is revealed in it. Care should therefore be taken to purify the mind.
5. There are three things which are rare indeed and are attained by the grace of God, namely a human birth, desire for liberation and the protecting care of a perfected sage.
6. Among things conducive to liberation, devotion alone holds the supreme place. The seeking after one's real nature is designated as devotion.
7. Believe in that one God and there are nothing else apart from that Supreme Being.
