The word education derived from the Latin word EDUCARE which means to lead i.e the root word. Basically education decodes as to train i.e the teaching or training of people especially in school. According to Martin Luther King jr, a right education is that which developes both intelligence and morality of a child. Education provides a platform for developing the analytical power of mind, the critical thinking abilities, the right/wrong approach, the right decision making power and the most important it developes the emotional intelligence of a person. Without education a society is like a building without foundation and a tree without roots.
Someone rightly said that if you want to destroy a nation peacefully, just make a hole in her education system and the nation will collapsed automatically without any physical force...thats the power of education. Because always a nation's future depends on her education system and her pupils. It is always true that today's young sters are tomorrow's citizens. But it is equally true that the quality of future citizens depends on today's elder, teachers, and the type of education they receive.
In the context of India,it was the sword of education by which Raja Rammohun Roy beheaded the evil practice of Sati and it was the spear of education by which Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar thrown out the superstitions of widows and so on. Because a right practice of education always give freedom to its followers. So that a nice quote i.e SA VIDYA JA BIMUKTYAYE Is still relevant. Education is the torch which pours light on the darkness to removes it from the society and brings joy, happiness for all. But in the same time the opposite of it is also badly dangerous. Education in a wrong way also brings destruction.
Today's education has no real value . It's value just stick on the business purposes . There is no place for ethics and morality . Thats why we face unexpected things right now.
Today's education means only collect many certificates and degrees which are actually good in papers and happy to hear . Today education is measured by the percentage scored in the exam, the language used for speaking . The more is the percentage the more value of education and the more fluency in English (mainly) the more intelligent. But in the same time we can also notice that the so called well educated person is lack of ethics, emotion, affection, and behaviour. An illiterate backward man in the village is far better than that of a well educated man. After all that well educated man makes the barrier of education between them . But this is not the nature of education. Our ancient rishis and Yogis were composed a brilliant quote on this context i.e
So what I want to narate is that ,we have to guide our fresh upcoming generation in the direction of right education. Provide them the value based education not only the money oriented. Competition is important in life but it should be done with our own self not others . If it should be done with our own self then it becomes self motivation but the opposite will become complete destruction.
We have to revive our ancient well established value based education system like Brahmacharya Asharam ,the value based scriptures like Panchtantra, Srimad Bhagavat Gita etc . So for that purpose learning is very important and it also a part of education .
Remember what Vivekananda said that, "Education- the panacea of all evils ."
Atlast I'm going to conclude this topic with a letter Which was written by Abraham Lincoln to his son's teacher .............
He will have to learn,I know, that all men are not just ,all men are not true. But teach him also that for every scoundrel, there is a hero ; that for every selfish politician, there is a dedicated leader .
Teach him that for every enemy there is a friend.
Teach him that a dollar earned is of far more value than five found .
Teach him to learn to lose and also enjoy winning. Steer him away from envy , if you can .
Teach him the secret of quiet laughter.
Teach him the wonder of books; but also give him quite time to ponder the eternal mystery of birds in the sky , bees in the sun and flowers on a green hillside.
In school teach him it is far more honourable to fail than to cheat.
Teach him to have faith in his own ideas, even if everyone tells him they are wrong.
Teach him to be gentle with gentle people, and tough with the tough.
Try to give him the strength not to follow the crowd when everyone is getting on the band wagon.
Teach him to listen to all men, but teach him also to filter all he hears on a screen of truth ,and take only the good that comes through.
Teach him how to laugh when he is sad.
Teach him there is no shame in tears.
Teach him to close his ears to a howling mob and to stand and fight if he thinks he's right.
Teach him gently, but do not cuddle him, because only the test of fire makes fine steel.
Let him have the courage to be impatient, let him have the patience to be brave.
Teach him always to have sublime faith in his creator and faith in himself too, because then he will always have faith in mankind.
This is a big order, but please see what you can do . He is such a fine little fellow, my son.
So together we take a resolution in this new year to learn something new everyday .
Wish you all a happy new year....
