Before being a karma Yogi one must to understand the meaning of KARMA. The Gita is completely based on Karma yoga . From krishna to Buddha to Vivekananda to Gandhi all are the true examples of karma Yogi , then what is the secret of karma Yoga and what is karma ?
Let's discuss it in depth....
The Sanskrit term Karma derived from the root verb "Kri", which means to act. Therefore Karma signifies action, and refers to all actions wheather of mind or body. Whenever there is activity of any kind, it is Karma. In this sense devotion, love, worship, meditation, discrimination are all Karma.
The secondary meaning of KARMA embraces all reactions or results of action as every action has its reaction. No action can be separated from its result. The chain of cause and sequence, known as the ' Law of causation', is also called Karma.
The third meaning of this term includes the accumulated results of past action or rather the seed forms of future activities. Hence the character of an individual, which is the aggregate result of the works of his previous life may be called Karma ( Prarabdhah karma ).
Karma yoga is , therefore, that branch of science of yoga which discuss the philosophy of karma ( as described) by which the individual soul can extricate itself from the wheel of action and reaction, escaped from the law of causation, fulfill the highest purpose of life ( Moksha).
It is the path best fitted for those who believe in their work not fate , who are not devotional, and who do not care to worship or pray to a personal God.
This branch of Yoga describes the secret of work ( as we sown so can we reap), by knowing which we can remove all causes of bondage and suffering , and enjoy freedom, peace, and happiness both here and after life .
It tells us that every action inspired by the motive or desire for results attaches the soul to these results, and becomes a source of bondage. The secret of work consists in working for work's sake and not for fruits ( Nishkama Karma). ( Nishkama Karma tells that we should do our work but without any desire for fruits . The fruits is in the hand of God . If we perform our duties in a cordial ways we must get the best results ).
Anyone who wishes to become a true Karma Yogi should clearly understand the philosophy of work, and should remember that every action of body and mind must produce some effect which will eventually come back upon the doer, and if there be the smallest desire for result,it will be the seed of a future action of like nature. If the doer performs the action in harmony with moral principles then the reaction is good like peace, rest, fortune, health, and happiness and if one violates the laws then the reaction will be evil like restlessness, discomfort, loss of fortune, disease, and unhappiness etc.
A traveller in the path of Karma Yoga should not even think evil of others, because in the attempt to injure others we first injure ourselves. Again a Karma Yogi should realise that there is one being in the universe. Seeing this same Being in all living creatures ,he should recognise the rights of all and should not injure anyone both mentally and physically.
Like a nurse as she takes care the child while born but not has the right to becomes a mother of the newborn ,the karma yogi must discards the desire of the result of his action . He understands that sense of duty is bondage, while work done through s feeling of love frees the soul and brings peace , rest , and in the end, everlasting happiness.
The true fact is that we ,the each and every individual are born karma Yogi without our awareness . As every single thought creates in our mind by the action of thinking . If we perform our duties in a right way then the destination must be a right place . I think from today the reader will also try to become a Nishkama Karma Yogi...
In odia what Pandit Gopa Bandhu wrote ,
MANAVA JIBANA NUHAI KEVALA BARSA-MASA-DINA- DANDA, KARME JIYE NARA KARMA EKA TARA JIBANARA MANADANDA ..( HUMAN LIFE IS NOT JUSY ONLY SOME DAYS,. MONTHS AND YEARS BUT THE TRUE VALUE OF THE PURPOSE OF LIFE IS THE KARMA ).
