The word Yoga simply denotes as addition. When two objects meet with each other addition occurs. In spirituality yoga means the addition of the Jivatma with the Paramatma. There are various ways of yoga like Karma yoga, Gyana yoga, Hatha yoga etc. For example in Gita lord Krishna preaches us to be a Karma yogi, all the physical exercises are belong to Hatha yoga but that's not our matter of concern for today's topic. We are going to discuss the limbs of Yoga given by Maharshi Patanjali in Patanjali Yogasutra. There are total of eight limbs as,
1. Yama- It includes five principles. The five universal, ethical, and moral standards to live life by nonviolence (ahimsa), truthfulness (satya),non stealing (asteya), continence (bramhcharya),non covetousness (aparigraha).
2.Niyama- It includes five mantras, five spiritual and self discipline observerance like cleanliness (sauch), contentment (sontosh), spiritual austerities (tapa), study of scriptures (swadhyay), surrender to god completely (ishwar pranidhan).
3.Asana- Physical yoga postures i.e Hatha yoga which includes care of the physical self. By practicing the asanas one can developes the healthy body where a healthy mind resides.
4.Pranayama- The science of breathing . It reveals the breathing exercises and through which one can able to take control of his own breathing (prana vayu) and thought to be provide long life.
5.Pratyahara- Control over the senses by practicing regularly. Though it seems difficult but it is better to late than never.
6.Dharana- Concentration on inner awareness. In yogic science the process through which the power of concentration developes is known as Tratak i.e focusing on a single point by removing all other distractions.
7.Dhyana-Meditation which includes an unbroken connection with the divine.
8. Samadhi- Union with the Divine through transcending the self. This stage includes the feeling of deep peace also called mindfulness which describes the complete process of YOGA.
Each and every person can performs this as it not only for the sadhus or rishis but for all. Its the way of self realisation. It seems simple in theory but in practical its quite difficult . The sadhus and rishis do the same with interest so they attain the state of samadhi, mindfulness, peacefulness. If a common man does only one thing i.e either Hatha yoga or meditation or Tratak which ever she/ he desires will definitely get the result if not fully but partially which is enough for a common man as the universal law is what we give out,we must receive back.
