- Son meta preference vs unwanted girl child.
- way forward
From the time immemorial there is a conflict between son and daughter which still goes on . Science and technology did a remarkable progress in the recent past but still never be able to change the mindset of people completely . Even by using the technology one could able to know the sex of a zygote (pre Natal test). Now it is changing slowly. The conflict is who should be given more importance and does a boy child more important than a girl child etc. Though during the Rig vedic period women had their unique position along side their male counterparts but the prime position were held by the men. History says Raziya was the first and last female muslim ruler during the Delhi sultanate period. Though Rani Lakshmi Bai, Rani Durgamati were also there in India but the royal and administrative participation of women as compared to men were not satisfactory.
So what could be the reason behind this?
In this article we are going to analyse some points about it .
So let's begin...
According to economic survey 2018 it was pointed out that, many Indian parents are opting to continue having children until they have a son or desired number of son and this concept is referred as Son meta preference. It simply decodes as parents are mostly opted for a male child rather than a female. And again I want to quoted here that,"the desired for a male created 21million unwanted girls in India between 0to 25 years.( Economic survey 2018)
Here two important words are
1) Son meta preference
2). Unwanted girl child
So what you think the reason behind it.
My answer be like as man is a social animal so we should find the reason from the societ firstly. A person when belongs to a society then she/he must abides by some rules/ regulations and there are some meaning and motive behind any act done by them .
So the reasons might be like
1. To rescue the parents from the hell called as PUTT-
According to our Indian scriptures one can find there are several hell like Kumbhipakam, Raurabh, Maharaurabh etc and putt is one among those hell. If a parents have a male child (nandan) then they could be rescued from that hell . That's why in Indian society a male child is referred as Kulanandana.
2. To carry on the lineage-
Without a male child the growth of a lineage couldn't happen.
3. Caretaker of father's hard earned properties-
Every father's has a desire that after his death who will be the next to looks after of his properties. A daughter generally leaves her parents house and joins with her husband through a sacred institution called marriage.
4. No dowry tension-
Now there are very rare cases of dowry come infront of us . But if you are a man there is no dowry tension in our society.
5.rituals performed by son like Sharaddha-
Sharrdha is a sacred rituals basically carries out within Hinduism and which is performed by the son.
6. Male also considered as a human labour power for the poor man to make more money.
** The above are some of the reasons behind Son meta preference but all of these points have one end i.e what if a parents have not a male child after a lots of trying.
Now India has a current sex ratio of 943/1000which clearly denotes less female as compared to male. As I mentioned earlier that 21mn unwanted girl child and they are suffering in each stage as the male child are taking all the benefits. So this is also an emerging problem for new India as they are not valueless but their condition are deteriorating. As per the report of economic survey punjab/Haryana state has low sex ratio while Meghalaya has the Highest and according to NFHS more than 2mn women go missing across age groups every year either due to sex selective abortion/disease/neglect/inadequate nutrition.
Now the climax part what should be the way forward..
1) Awareness-
Education can be a panacea if implemented in a planned direction. Because education brings awareness and awareness can do anything. Now the traditional mindset are changing and parents also happy with their girl child.
2) false blamed on scriptures-
Many people blamed the scriptures but they must remember that scriptures also provide other goods provisions for them but they don't follow those and it couldn't be a valuable argument. Infact Indian scriptures have a great position for female deities.
3) no girl no procreation-
It must be noted here that a boy is the product of a girl. If there will no female there will no procreation .
Atlast I would like to conclude this with some great examples of female who are doing fantastic job as compared to their male counterparts like Bhavna Kant, Meghna pant , JK Rowling, Angela Merkel, Medha Patekar, Kiran Mozumdar Shaw, Roshni Nadar etc.
This is all about for this article.
