Shiv mahapuran : a biography of the Lord Shiva.

Shiva is never really a person but is an abstract principle - Shiva Tattva - an all-pervading consciousness that is seated deep within every animate and inanimate entity of this universe.

Shiva is that nothingness, from which all creation - the stars, planets, galaxies, mountains, oceans, all living beings, etc. - manifests and into which all creation disintegrates.
 
Shiva is that formless from which all other forms are originates and that formlessness attributes of Shiva accumulates every forms.
 
So a common man mind doesn't understand and capture these ideas easily. Bhaktavatsal is one of a name of lord Shiva and for the devotees Shiva forms one more figure who is known as Shankar,the human form of shiva who lives with his consort Maa Parvati in Kailash. Among 18 Mahapurans ,Shiva Mahapuran is regarding about lord Shiva and his deeds. It is said that this Megabook originally contained 100000 slokas and was written by his highness lord VedaVyas but it is now available in 24000 slokas within 7 Samhitas which was contracted by VedaVyas's disciple Roomoharshana. 
   
    The word "Mahapuran" itself means "great purana," which is a genre of Hindu literature that narrates ancient history and legends about the gods and goddesses of Hinduism in a puranik manner. The Shiv Mahapuran is considered to be one of the most important of these puranas, as it contains lifelines, teachings, and prayers that are central to the worship of Lord Shiva.

 The 7 Samhitas and their brief introduction are given below ------
                      SHIV MAHAPURAN 
  Shiv Puran -Mahatmya - describes the benifits of reading, listening of this book and prescribes some rules to start the process.
      1. VIDYESWAR SAMHITA- it is about the philosophical parts.
      2. RUDRA SAMHITA - divides into 5 parts like , Srusti khand, Sati khand, Parvati khand,  kumar khand, yuddha khand.
      3. SATARUDRA SAMHITA - it speaks various avatars of lord Shiva like Sadyajit,Vamadev,Aghor,Eshan, Ardhanariswar, Kalavairav etc.
     4. KOTIRUDRA SAMHITA - it speaks about 12 yotirlingas and their worshipping method and others.
     5. UMA SAMHITA - it speaks about various sins and the position of jeevatma after death.
     6. KAILASH SAMHITA - it is about Shiva darshan.
     7. VAYAVIYA SAMHITA - it is again divided into two parts like Purva and uttar which are the concluding remarks.
