Mount Kailash, standing tall at 6,638 meters (21,778 feet)in the Himalayas, is one of the most sacred and mysterious mountains in the world. It is revered in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Bon religion as a divine and spiritual center. According to Hindu beliefs, it is the celestial abode of Lord Shiva,the Supreme God of destruction and transformation.

In Hinduism, Mount Kailash is the sacred residence of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. According to scriptures lord Shiva meditates on Kailash, spreading wisdom and energy across the universe. Lord Shiva is so benevolent that he decided to reside in this mortal world for the betterment of the mankind which proves his name of Pasupati.Kailash is also known as Meru Parvat,the cosmic axis that holds the universe together.His presence makes Kailash a source of divine energy, attracting sages, yogis, and spiritual seekers for thousands of years.  

Shiva is believed to be in perpetual meditation at the summit of Kailash.He radiates divine energy, bringing peace and balance to the universe. According to the Shiva Purana, once the demon king Ravana,a great devotee of Shiva,  tried to lift Mount Kailash to prove his strength.Shiva pressed the mountain down with his toe, to taught a lesson to Ravana. Suddenly Ravana realized his mistake and composed the Shiva Tandava Stotra to pleased lord Shiva. After satisfaction by Ravana’s devotion Shiva freed Ravana and granted him blessings. In this way Mount Kailash holds significant importance in Hinduism as a sacred place. Despite today's technological advancements it is still inaccessible. Mount Kailash is not only a spiritual center but also a scientific mystery.

It is not fully unclimbed and unconquered.No one has ever successfully climbed Mount Kailash unlike other peaks in the Himalayas.Climbers experience unusual obstacles and extreme weather changes who attempt to ascend.Mount Kailash has a striking pyramidal shape that some researchers believe may be man-made or an ancient energy generator. The mountain is perfectly aligned with geographical cardinal points, similar to the Great Pyramids of Egypt.Travelers near Mount Kailash have reported rapid biological aging process. These are still considered as hidden mysteries about mount Kailash.

Apart from that Near Mount Kailash, there are two contrasting lakes: Lake Mansarovar, a pure, freshwater lake symbolizing positivity and life and Lake Rakshastal ,a saltwater lake, associated with negativity and demonic energies.These lakes symbolize the duality of existence good and evil, light and darkness.  

Despite these facts many devotees do their parikrama every year as it is believed that a parikrama(circumambulation)around mount Kailash washes out their past sins and directs them towards liberation.The full Parikrama is about 52 km (32miles)and takes 2-3 days approximately but the journey is extremely challenging due to harsh weather and high altitude.
